Trauma therapy is designed to support individuals process and heal from traumatic experiences. Trauma can result from a wide range of events, including abuse, relational wounds, accidents, natural disasters, loss, sexual trauma, or violence. The goal of trauma therapy is to help clients understand and work through the emotional, psychological, and physical impacts of trauma, leading to recovery and improved well-being. I utilize a trauma informed approach in my work with all clients, which integrates a series of techniques designed to create a supportive and empathetic environment that empowers my clients in their process of healing. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which is a body based trauma treatment therapy.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a structured psychotherapy technique designed to help individuals process and heal from traumatic memories and experiences. Developed by Francine Shapiro in the late 1980s, EMDR has become a widely recognized and effective treatment for trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The therapy combines elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) with bilateral stimulation (or dual attention stimuli), often involving guided eye movements, to facilitate the processing of distressing memories. I have found this modality to be incredibly effective in supporting the process of healing for trauma, anxiety, depression, and phobias.
