Sex and Porn Addiction Therapy

Sex and porn addiction therapy is a specialized therapeutic approach designed to help individuals who struggle with compulsive sexual behaviors. This therapy aims to address the underlying issues contributing to these behaviors, promote autonomy, and support individuals in achieving a more balanced and fulfilling life.

In treating compulsive sexual behavior, I approach my work with gentleness and sensitivity. Shame often underlies sexual compulsivity and prevents people from reaching out for support for fear of judgment. You can be assured that I have probably heard it before, and if I haven't I will not be surprised or judgmental. My clients that come in to address sexual compulsivity often report feeling out of control around their sexual behavior, leading to a sense of unmanageability. To address this, I utilize a structured approach to support my clients in increasing their sense of groundedness through integrating healthy boundaries and appropriate coping skills. In this work, we will create a treatment plan that addresses your individual needs and history. In working with compulsive sexual behaviors, treatment plans likely include explorations of early sexual experiences, family and romantic relationships, mental health factors, and hopes for the future. I believe in my clients and their capacity to heal and create change, and I hope to be able to support you in the process of building the life you want.

What is Compulsive Sexual Behavior?

Compulsive sexual behavior refers to a pattern of persistent, overwhelming urges or actions related to sex that feel out of control. Individuals with this behavior may engage in sexual activities in a way that interferes with their daily life, relationships, or well-being. Despite efforts to stop or reduce the behavior, it often continues or intensifies over time. Compulsive sexual behavior can include excessive pornography use (as defined by the individual’s difficulty in managing/controlling their use), compulsive masturbation, infidelity, sexual risk taking, or other sexual activities that feel difficult to resist, even when they lead to negative emotional, social, or physical consequences. If you feel that you may struggle with sexual compulsivity, there are many treatment options available to you and therapy is only one of them. I would be happy to discuss treatment options and answer any questions you may have.
